Our Story

Our Story…

Our story began long before we ever met each other…through generations of builders, creators, and talented relatives. On my husband’s side of the family, his dad built many houses, ran several businesses including selling roses and raising Great Danes and rabbits. My husband told me of the times where his dad would take him into the woods showing him different species of trees, learning the characteristics of the bark and leaves to determine which wood would be best for building houses and which trees would be suited for projects. As time went on, his dad was not physically able to build but instead offered his guidance to my husband in building our log home “the Johnson House.” My husband’s mother was a creative soul, always drawing and embroidering when you visited. She looked forward to showing us her latest creations in embroidery blocks, ranging from scenes of children playing , to animals, to flowers, all anxiously awaiting to become a quilt for a member of the family. She hand embroidered and quilted our wedding quilt which I cherish to this day! She  also loved flowers and this was evident in her yard, filled with azaleas, lilies, roses, hollyhocks and daffodils. My husband has this same love for flowers and is evident in many flowers in our landscape( which we both have that love for flowers in common!). So you see, my husband has those creative genes in his bloodline!

As for me, well my creativity runs deep through my ancestors also! On my dad’s side of the family, builders, farmers and expert flower growers prevailed. My grandmother had a green thumb with every plant she cared for! I remember when I was small helping her move all of her huge African violets from a location of early morning sun in her dining area to an area of indirect light on her back porch, each and every day taking this loving task so as not to burn the plump but fragile velvety leaves. She also had a talent in making hand crocheted blankets, bedspreads and doll clothes. She was making beautiful blankets for family and friends every time you visited. I especially remember the raised red roses with green leaves on a white background bedspread she crocheted for my mother. I think that one was my favorite!

On my mother’s side of the family, there were business owners, preachers of God’s Word, farmers, quilters , sewers, and hand needle creators.  My grandpa was a Baptist preacher for as long as I remember and on the side he owned and ran a hosiery manufacturing plant. He had great business instincts and sold to many sock selling companies throughout the region. I remember doing several tasks in the plant when I was younger, learning the value of work and earning money which I applied to buying school clothes for the next year! I was so proud of the money I made, but also the product that I helped my grandpa create!  My mother’s grandmother sewed and tatted. Sewing clothes for my grandmother to wear, my great grandmother became an expert in sewing and creating clothes of different styles. My mother would say that my grandmother “never wore the same dress twice.” Now that’s a lot of sewing!! As for my parents, my dad is always engineering things, creating and building, precisely measuring and trying projects until it works flawlessly. He also ran a nursery at one time, honing in on that green thumb that his mother passed onto him! Our flower beds were so loved, I remember many people would drive by or stop just to look at them! It was hard work, but the end product was beautiful! My mother is a talent in herself! Everything she touches is made beautiful by her creativeness. She has coordinated many weddings, created silk floral arrangements for weddings, Christmas parties and her church sanctuary. She is an expert sewer, not only making clothes for us to wear as kids going to school, but creating upholstery and draperies! I remember not too many years ago, she made beautiful stuffed  teddy bears from all different prints of cotton to give to the little girls at our annual Niece’s Feast! I could not tell who was happier, my mom for giving them or those little girls for receiving them!

So you see, our talents run deep on all sides of the family and we cannot give credit to just ourselves for our creativity. You see, I believe ALL good things come from God and He chose to pass those talents to us so we can continue on the legacy of our family in creating and sharing them with you! So if you see something on this website created by my husband, such as wooden bowls or tables, he is using the knowledge and skills passed to him from his parents. And if you see paintings, silk floral arrangements, or hand embroidery or sewing, this talent has been passed on through my parents and their parents and great grand parents!

I invite you to browse through our website and enjoy the accessories we have created for your home! We love doing what we do!
